Bringing communities closer together

In 2020, myself and 3 other local mums featured on the (heavily cut)  BBC News at 6! and BBC News at 10. In this, we discussed the importance of investing in children and families to reduce inequalities. You can see the video here:

In 2019, Em ‘n’ Em featured in The Rossendale Free Press with our new initiative addressing food poverty and insecurity and addressing this at community-wide level with a new Breadline style community recipe book. “Recipes of Rossendale” became a sister project to Knitting Smiles, and now our recipe books are given out with every box.

Knitting Smiles featured in October 2018’s Lancashire Life Magazine. The article explained how The Royal College of Midwives’ Annual Ball had chosen Knitting Smiles, along with national Charity CMV Action, this year to support and monies raised from the event were split between the two. We were so grateful as a small project to be so generously supported, and look – we made it into gloss!

In 2017, Emma travelled to the BBC Radio Lancashire Studio to speak about Knitting Smiles and encourage local groups, craft shops, and small businesses to get involved with running their own knitting or craft events. This is with the aim of bringing communities closer together, igniting new found passion for art and crafts, and supporting their neighbours with the donation of any handmade goodies 🙂

In 2016 we were featured on Lancashire Radio Station 2BR and in Rossendale Free Press Newspaper. Emma also wrote an article for the Institute of Health Visiting, sharing the initial successes and value of her project for young families.
